FAQ

  • Direct Primary Care (DPC) is a healthcare model where patients pay a flat monthly fee directly to their physician for unlimited access to primary care services, without involving insurance.

By working directly with patients, DPC physicians can focus entirely on your health—emphasizing a personal relationship, longer visits, and more accessible communication between doctor and patient.

  • Insurance is for the unexpected. Saguaro Direct Care is for everything else. Most people rarely meet their deductible – but they still face long waits, rushed appointments, surprise bills, and fragmented care. Direct primary care fills in those gaps by giving you the following:

    1. Direct and unlimited access to a board-certified physician for phone calls, text messaging, and video visits through our secure communication platform, “Spruce”

    2. No long wait times, hidden fees, co-pays, co-insurance or meeting your deductible, or waiting weeks to get a rushed 10 minute appointment with your traditional primary care provider.

    3. Convenient care on your schedule from home. No traffic, no waiting rooms, or time off work. Whether you're managing chronic conditions, refilling meds, or have a new concern - you can reach me quickly and easily.

    4. I don't have to answer to insurance rules, quotas, prior auths or productivity metrics – just to you. That means more thoughtful care, dedicated time with you, and smarter decisions.

    5. Discounted cash rates with local pharmacies, local lab and imaging facilities.

  • No. We do not accept or bill insurance, and insurance is not required to be a member. This allows us to provide more personalized care—free from insurance restrictions, prior authorizations, or coding constraints.

Please note: We still recommend keeping health insurance to comply with federal guidelines, and to cover services outside the scope of our care. A membership with Saguaro Direct Care is not a replacement for insurance – it's a compliment to your existing coverage, offering convenient, personalized care for your every day health needs.

  • The short answer is no, not at this time.

Saguaro Direct Care is a membership-based practice that does not bill insurance or Medicare for medical services.

If you are currently enrolled in Medicare and we are enrolled as a Medicare Provider, we are legally required to bill Medicare for any covered medical services including telehealth visits - even if you prefer to pay out of pocket.

Therefore we are currently only accepting patients who are not enrolled in medicare or medicare patients seeking non-covered services (wellness, coaching, lifestyle support). I’m happy to see patients with commercial insurance, no insurance, or those not yet eligible for Medicare. But again, we will not bill your insurance.

If you have questions about your eligibility or would like to be placed on our waitlist when we do start seeing medicare patients, please reach out to us.

  • Saguaro Direct Care is primarily a virtual-first telemedicine practice, but we also offer house call doctor visits. This is available to members only and for an additional charge.

We are able to address most health concerns from a primary care standpoint through phone or secure video visits. Your medical information is stored in our HIPPA compliant system, securely encrypted in the Google cloud to protect your identity and personal health data.

For patients whose needs exceed what can be managed virtually, we will determine if a home visit is necessary or refer you out to a specialist.

  • We see adults 18 and over, and manage most adult health concerns, including urgent care needs and chronic disease like diabetes, hypertension, COPD, Asthma, Heart Failure symptoms, Blood Clots, mental health issues, and more.

We are able to provide full medication reviews, refills, new prescriptions, order labs and imaging, and send referrals.

We also offer our weight loss program through the use of GLP-1s and access to functional wellness labs.

  • Our monthly membership does not cover emergency care, hospitalizations, minor or major surgeries, or specialist visits. It also doesn't include vaccines, administering medications or injections, or routine procedures – since we’re a virtual practice.

As mentioned earlier, Saguaro Direct Care is not meant to be a replacement to your insurance, but a complement to your existing coverage.

You can still use your insurance at Pharmacy's, labs, imaging centers and specialists we refer you to. Or if you're paying out-of-pocket, we can often help you access services at discounted self pay rates, so you can compare and choose what works best for you.

Please note that we partner with local companies and facilities, so the individual membership cost alone does not cover labs, imaging, medication fees which are separate costs to you. Of course, we strive for very competitive prices for these services.

  • Yes, upon request.

what is a superbill? - It is an itemized receipt that a healthcare provider gives to a patient after a visit. It includes the services provided, diagnosis codes (ICD-10), the amount charged—so the patient can submit it to their insurance company for possible reimbursement if the provider is out of network or does not bill insurance directly. (like in many DPC practices)

  • If you decide to cancel- you just let us know. We expect to have an open, honest, respectful relationship with you. There is no minimum commitment. We ask that you give us a 30 day notice if you wish to cancel. If you cancel then decide to rejoin, you will be asked to pay the enrollment fee again.  We only take a limited amount of patients so we cannot guarantee there will be availability, if this is the case you will be placed on the waiting list.

  • Yes. At Saguaro Direct Care, we value, respectful, collaborative relationships with our patients. While we strive to provide care to everyone we accept, there may be rare situation where the virtual care model is not a safe or appropriate fit for a particular patient's needs—or if a patient engages in behavior that is abusive, threatening, or disruptive. In such cases, we reserve the right to end the provider–patient relationship.

Should this happen, we will provide appropriate notice and if needed help coordinate a safe transition of care.
